Fuerteventura surf spot guide!

If you are looking for the easiest beginner surf spots Fuerteventura look no further than this surf spot guide Fuerteventura.

Yes we all know, Fuerteventura is the perfect place for practicing water sports all year round. From kitesurfing to windsurfing, surfing and now even winging and foiling, there is choice for everyone. In this article we focus on where to surf if you are a beginner or intermediate surfer.

So you just rented you surfboard but don’t know where to go. Here is the comprehensive list of the best beginner surf spots Fuerteventura. We use this spots also for our surf lessons.

El Cotillo Piedra Playa

El Cotillo – Piedra Playa is a beautiful sandy beach just South of El Cotillo village on the North-Eastern part of Fuerteventura, just 10 minutes away from Lajares. You can reach the spot easily by car (warning: rental company can charge extra if they found damages from off-road riding).

This surf spot is essentially a beach break, so if you are looking to surf white water or even green waves it can be just right. Sandy bottom and waves all year make it very accessible.

When to surf here ?

The answer is one always: low tide! If you go there in high tide most of the time the waves break directly on the shore, making it impossible to surf for beginners. It can be quite powerful sometime, so make sure that the swell is under a meter.

In addition to this, it is important to stay in the designated beach area, as there is a separate one for kiters, windsurfers or swimmers. Beach guard is on duty and usually there are no strong currents.

Playa de El Moro

Playa de El Moro is a stunning white sandy beach located in Natural Park of Dunes of Corralejo, around 15 minutes away from Lajares, on the North-eastern part of Fuerteventura.

The spot works consistently with Norther or Eastern wind swells. It’s therefore quite reliable when summer trade winds are on, from June to September and or when Eastern winds kick in.

It’s a beach break, with some rock on both right side and left side, visible in low tide. It is a great Fuerteventura surf spot for beginners.

Beginners or intermediate surfers will love this spot when conditions are not too big. You will not need to paddle too much and colours are beautiful, waves are generally less powerful than in Cotillo and the best time to visit is in medium to low tide.

Lifeguard on duty but be careful with currents: sometimes can be really strongespecially on both sides of the beach. It is a friendly place also for families, who will love their time at the beach sheltered from the winds.

Punta Blanca

Punta Blanca is a beautiful wild spot of the North Shore, close to Cotillo, right after Punta Gorda.

This spot is an all-time favourite of many surf schools and intermediate riders. It is accessible from 10-15minutes off-road both coming from Cotillo or Majanicho, around 20 minutes from Lajares.

First good reasons to love this area. The spot is great if you want to  learn how to use the channels (on the left of the spot!), choose the line-up point and ride long easy waves.

Secondly, on good days it can get pretty big, but on average you can always choose where to surf and how big you want the waves. Because of its popularity, it can get pretty crowded, anyway you should visit this spot in medium tides, not too low and not too high.

Thirdly, there are lefts and rights, which makes it a good waves to train surfing both sides, for regular or goofy riders.

There is a small sandy access on the left of the beach, that’s the only place you should use, especially if you don’t have shoes. Above all, families or your group of friends will love the surf vibes and relaxed atmosphere at the beach, where people chill and have good time together. It’s a rocky spot with nice sandy beach, therefore bring your reef boots if you are a bit clumsy or want extra protection!

Be careful here, there are no lifeguards on duties ever. In other words, if you are in doubt, there is no one surfing or it is too big, don’t go out.
