Everything you need to know for strapless kitesurfing in Zanzibar
Kitesurfing in Zanzibar is great, there are beautiful lagoons and good variety of conditions. What about kitesurfing in the waves then?
Let’s start by saying that is only possible on the East side of the island. The closest reef in located in the area of Matemwe, but there is not a lagoon in the front. The area of Pwani Mchangani has a great and accessible reef only 7-800 meters away from the beach.
From Kiwengwa to the South the reef is further out, from 1.5 km to 3km in the Jambiani area. Is Paje a good idea for strapless? Well it depends: the reef is quite far, so you better be equipped with a small rescue boat or few friends to keep an eye on each other.
Best reef?
Pwani Mchangani, waves are for any level and the beach is the closest you can find. Furthermore, the sandy lagoons awaits you on the inside, not far from the waves.
Wind is good for 9 to 12 meters in the waves, do not expect nuclear conditions, but who wants them anyway in the waves right?
In conclusion: looking for a guided tour of the waves, gear rental, drone shooting or spot discovery/assistance?
Our schools in Pwani Mchangani and Kiwengwa will be happy and equipped to sort everything out for you!
